Relative spacing between the buttons

I've found many topics about the big spacing between Facebook and Google+ buttons with bubbles, and I know I can fix this by specifying a CSS width. However, I don't think this is a good solution.

The size of the button will depend on the number of likes / +1's as well as the language - for example in the Netherlands, the word for 'Like' is 'Vind ik leuk', which is much longer. So if I specify a width for the buttons, it won't look good in all countries and in all circumstances.

Is there a way to tell the buttons that they only need to reserve the amount of space they _actually_ need?
If not, please consider this to be a feature request.

I'm aware of this problem and I've been bugging our developers about it for a while. Hopefully your request will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and finally gets this implemented.
