pinterest counter still not working

I can't get the Pinterest counter to show up. I've searched though this support section and while I see there are quite a few people with a similar problem, but no solutions. I'm at the point where I may need to consider "Share This" if I can't get Pinterest to work really, really soon.

When clicking the Pin it button the image is shared on Pinterest, but I never see a counter. I also can continue to share the same image over and over again. It seems the image is just not "sticking" if you know what I mean. The only thing I can think of is that the image is on a different domain (Amazon's CDN). I doubt that's the problem, but I can't think of what else it could be.

Any ideas?
