Disabled cookies but cookie still being dropped

I have set var addthis_config = { data_use_cookies: false } as part of my site's head tag Javascript, but recently I've noticed AddThis is now setting a single cookie: __atuvc containing a value ("2|19" when I just looked)... how can I stop this cookie being set as I've already asked AddThis not to use cookies.

I'd say that the __atuvc cookie is required for the core functionality of the AddThis counters. Without it they won't show the correct count until our caches have been updated. I've got a meeting with our team today to discuss this.

The __atuvc cookie is created and read by our JavaScript on the client side in order to make sure the user sees the updated count if they share a page and return to it before our share count cache is updated. No data from that cookie is sent back to AddThis and removing it when disabling cookies would cause unexpected behavior for users.

Paul, thanks for your reply.

EU Cookie law takes effect in the UK in a few weeks time which gives users the right to freely enable and disable cookies deemed "not required for the core functionality of the website"; I will have to completely remove AddThis from our website if a user opts out of cookies, because otherwise a cookie is going to be dropped which we cannot allow.

We dont display the count, so should the cookie still be set? How can we disable all cookies? AddThis is a great tool, but Im sure if there is no solution to a cookie free tool, you will lose many users. I hope we have a solution for this.

Thank you
