Facebook like width with counter

Hi,
I am trying to use the Facebook Like button with counter. However, If I have this, with the Facebook send (or any other share button) to the right of it there is a large gap. Then when someone likes the page the counter appears and the gap becomes less obvious - but is still there. I can get around the large gap by setting the width of the facebook like button, however, this still leaves a gap when noone has liked the page.
The Facebook like button that is available from them on the facebook developers site seems to adjust its width depending on if the counter is appearing or not. This is what I need. Is this a known issue with the AddThis Facebook Like? Is there a fix that you can offer me? Or am I doing something wrong?
