There are many different places to share content on the web. AddThis calls these sites Services — a "Service" is just a web page that can accept shared content on it’s URL. The Service Directory includes all of the services AddThis knows about. It lets publishers, users, and service owners see where sharing is happening on the web, and suggest new destinations.
AddThis uses the Service Directory, along with deep analysis of sharing activity, to provide users with smarter, more contextually relevant choices for sharing content to specific services. AddThis helps to put the right services in front of the right user at the right time.
- For service providers, this means an increased likelihood of being presented to their users.
- For publishers, this means more sharing of their content.
- For end users, it simply means sharing is easier and more relevant than ever before, no matter where they are or what language they might speak.
If you have an OExchange-compatible sharing service you can submit it for addition to our Service Directory and sharing menu.
How Do I Submit My Service?
If your service supports OExchange you can submit it here. We’ll read your discovery file and ask you for a few bits of information that help us approve your service and get in touch with you if we have questions.
Once you’ve submitted your service we’ll review it and verify that we are able to integrate. If your service is approved, we will send you a confirmation email with a link to its location in the directory. If we are not able to approve your service, we will send you an email with an explanation and followup information. The review and approval process can take a few weeks to a few months. We appreciate your patience.
Technical Requirements for Service Submission
OExchange is an open protocol for sharing URLs between websites that makes it easy for AddThis and other sharing tools to integrate with your service. OExchange uses standard URL parameters for sending content to your website, for example:
OExchange also defines a discovery mechanism so search engines and other sites can locate your service and share on-the-fly without any prior integration. Take a look at the Best Practices Guide for some tips on improving your sharing experience.
Your service must support the OExchange standard parameters and have a discovery file before it can be submitted to our directory. This is easy to do, most sharing sites can become OExchange compatible with a few small changes.
While we strive to integrate as many services as possible, and encourage you to submit yours, we only add services that we believe will meet the needs of our Internet users and offer a consistently high level of quality. We reserve the right to approve or disapprove services at our discretion.
